Who we are (and aren’t)

We create fine custom hand-made
furniture. When we tell people this, often they say, "Oh, you make
reproductions," meaning that we make copies of old furniture. We do not
make "reproductions" except for the times we are asked to duplicate a
specific piece. For instance, a recent customer had a nice Chester
County Pennsylvania chair with drake feet. We were asked to make a set
of dining chairs using this chair as a pattern.
There are a number of shops that make
satisfactory reproductions, and a few that make what can only be
described as fakes, since they reproduce the wear and tear of many
generations of use.
But few shops can successfully make
custom furniture, which requires a sense of style and the ability to
synthesize a new form from a variety of sources.
